A dark room can feel claustrophobic, confined and appear smaller than it actually is. Not exactly the impression that you want to portray when selling a home.
A bright and airy room on the other hand is inviting, comforting and uplifting.
Here are some tips on how to brighten up a dark room:
Lighting: Replace light globes with cool white globes and add a floor lamp or table lamp/s to the room.
Wall Colour: Paint over any dark/feature walls with a light/white paint. This will not only brighten the room, but it will also reflect any light coming in.
Windows: For rooms with windows ensure to take advantage of as much natural light as possible. Remove dark/heavy curtains and replace with light/white curtains or sheer fabrics to allow the natural light to come in. And don’t forget to clean your windows.
Mirrors: A mirror placed in the right location will reflect the light in to the room while creating the illusion of extra space.
Clutter: Minimising clutter is of utmost importance when presenting a home for sale, but this is particularly important for darker rooms, so removing excess items is a must!
